Meet Makeup Artist Shonagh Munday

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

My names Shonagh Munday, I’m 26 years old (this month :-/ haha) and I’m a makeup artist based in the UK.

Tell us about your beauty beginnings. How and when did you fall in love with makeup?

I got my first makeup box when I was 3! It was a kids kit, but my mum told me how to use each product properly so I could strut around the house in bright pink blusher and lipstick and emulate my Barbie! I have twin sister and we were each bought one most Christmases, and we would both wear our makeup and matching outfits!

What made you decide to be a makeup artist? How long have you been working as a makeup artist?

I was blessed with a talent for drawing, took after my Mum like that. I excelled at art in school, finishing top of my class. But in college, I wanted to do what was my favourite, that being drawing. And they wanted me to do painting, sculpting and other medias. During one of those lessons another student came in wearing prosthetic makeup, which fascinated me no end!
So after finding out that my college did a media makeup course, I dropped out of art and signed up for make-up! That was 7 years ago and I’ve never looked back!

How did you hear about Dinair?

I already had an airbrush as I used to graffiti trainers (sneakers to you, ha) and I decided I’d like to apply that skill to airbrushing faces, as opposed to leather. So I started researching makeup based Airbrush systems, and after reading reviews and watching other people on YouTube with their airbrushes, Dinair stood out a mile off for me. Being as it started out in the 80s, I thought, surely it’s development was a cut above other brands, as it has been around for ages. And I’m so pleased with my decision!

What are your favorite Dinair products to use?

I love the “Bright” colours and “Fantasy” range, as I like to creative edgy looks, bright colours are my MUST HAVE products! I couldn’t be without them!

How has Dinair and airbrush makeup benefited you professionally?

Not a lot of MUAs airbrush makeup, but it’s becoming more and more popular. So that fact I have my Dinair Pro Kit, I’m first choice for most bookings, especially brides! As I cover all aspects of makeup, it sets me apart from other MU artists who do not airbrush.

How has airbrush makeup changed your beauty routines, personally and professionally?

On a personal basis I do not use any other makeup now. And I always get compliments on how flawless my skin is so why would I choose anything else! 🙂

On a professional basis, if I get a client with problematic skin, I will always use my airbrush as its the best way to cover blemishes. You don’t drag up dry / flakey skin (which we all know makes a blemish look worse) and you can apply more coverage over particular areas without the effort of loading your brush up with more product, feathering the concealer lines etc. Hassle free coverage!

What are some of the most outrageous beauty projects you have completed using Dinair professionally??

I had a creative beauty shoot, and I chose to use black and white makeup. Now any MUA will know that blending black on to white needs to look flawless or your going to see any unblended areas. But that was no issue with my Dinair airbrush. The graduation you get with it is so easy and smooth, it left people saying WOW! And that’s my aim.

What do you find to be the most common mistakes women make with makeup?

Foundation! The most common issue Is that they wear the wrong shade for their skin tone. The problem with generic foundations is that most people are not one particular shade, so ideally you would need to buy two colour tones to mix them to get the correct shade.

But that’s the beauty with Dinair! You get four shades in either Fair, Medium, Tan or Dark, which gives you the ability to mix the shades in your chosen range to suit your skin tone.

And should you get a tan in the summer months you can add a little more of the darker shade in your range to suit your newly bronzed skin!

What is the best advice that you have ever been given?

Less is more.. And it really is! You want to look naturally beautiful. You don’t want to see the makeup, hence why Dinair say “Do not look for the makeup, look for the change in skin.”

Where do you see your self in ten years?

Hopefully a highly sought after makeup artist by the celebrities and high fashion magazines.

Is there anything else you would like to add about yourself or your experiences?

Dare to be different, if I didn’t try out wild & different makeup, I wouldn’t be known as the creative makeup artist I am today!
